Scott's Thoughts February: Warmth

Image
A friend once said to me, ”What are you going to do about it?”   This is a great question to ask.   Recently, our beloved grocery store The Bownesian was in the news because they need a bit more support from the community. We brainstormed at one of our Wednesday meetings here at Elan and we came up with the following:   During the month of February, make a purchase of $20 or more at the Bownesian and bring the receipt to us at Elan, you will be entered to win a 90 min massage. You will need to leave your name/number/email. There is no maximum times you can do this... it just betters your chances of winning the massage and shows warmth and love for an amazing local store. Happy shopping and good luck!  (yes, its a 90 minute massage! We upped the prize for you at the last minute).

Welcome to Megan!

Welcome to the Elan family Megan! You'll be seeing her as you arrive at Elan for your chiropractic, massage or acupuncture appointment  or you may be speaking to her on the phone. We're looking forward to working with her!  A few words from Megan, "Hello, my name is Megan and I am really excited to be working at Elan Family Wellness. I moved to Calgary about 3 years ago from Saskatchewan and have been in Bowness the entire time. I have no plans of leaving either as I love the community and the people.  I am looking forward to getti ng to know more of you as time goes on. I frequent many businesses in the area, love going to local events and am now a member of the Bowness legion as well, so if you see me around please say hello as it may take me a little time to learn all your faces and names. Thank you and see you soon."

Happy Mother's Day!

For all of the women and moms out there! For all of the sacred ways that women create and mother. "She is the healer, the nurturer, the tender of the garden, the guardian of our future, the kitchen witch & magic maker, the creator, the lover, the mother...she is a woman and her work is sacred." ~Brooke Hampton.  We had these beautiful roses in the office this past week to honour our moms and the moms in our lives. A small token of the huge and sacred work that women do.  Thank you to the many women and moms out there who choose us for their chiropractic, massage and acupuncture care, and who trust us with their family wellness care. We value your trust!

FIKA in February

Image
We hope you can join us for FIKA in February! As part of our February Warmth Theme, we thought celebrating FIKA-the art of taking the time for a break, would be a good way to bring more warmth to your day! Once a week we will be brewing the coffee, so please join us after your Chiropractic, Massage, Acupuncture or Psychology appointment!  In honour of February, a month where we all can use more Warmth, join us for a morning or afternoon of  What is Fika? Swedes consider Fika as an essential part of the day. It is about setting aside time in the day to enjoy a cup of coffee (or tea) as well as snacks with family, friends and colleagues. We look forward to spending time and getting to know each and every one of you!

June at Elan!

What a fun month! Here's a few of the highlights!  Yum! Have you ever heard of FIKA? We thought it was something we should implement on a Saturday morning. FIKA is fancy for coffee and sweets. Conveniently, we have Sweet Home Bakery just around the corner from us. We had P.I.E. and FIKA-that means Pain Integration Experience followed by coffee and sweets.  We had a ball for Father's Day!  Elan was set up at Run Bowness. Here's Scott with MLA Deborah Drever, and a photo of our team of Margaret, McKenzie and Scott. Scott was doing on-site massage to help the runner's injuries, and Margaret was there offering advice on how Acupuncture can help those concerns.  It was a busy month! Last up in June was Patient Appreciation Day.

Gratitude & Priming

S cott's Thoughts: Gratitude in November~ it's perception month at Elan Family Wellness Centre! Thanks to Scott Hutchison, Registered Massage Therapist at our office (and founder of Energy Rich Day!!) for this information on Gratitude and Priming.  And swoosh... November has blown in for it's yearly visit. As we start to shiver and wonder where our wonderful summer went, it's a great time to look back early and say thanks for an amazing year! Around our neck of the planet, we shoot for a daily practice of Gratitude. A study was once done around effect of external stimulus on the emotional preconception of our environment. Shortly, something as simple as temperature (even brief but extreme exposure) could have lasting emotional colouring in ones day. Knowing this trick of the mind and body, we can hack our day to look for opportunities of gratitude. Imagine taking just 10 minutes to set your nervous system and brain/body antenna to tune into areas in your life to f...
