Scott's Thoughts~Perception

Image
Thanks to Scott Hutchison for this thoughts on Perception, our theme at Elan this month! Scott is a Registered Massage Therapist at our office in Bowness, NW, Calgary.  We have reached November. It’s a big month!!! Our daughter turns 10, I am one grey beard hair away from wizard status and we have a whole month at Elan dedicated to Perception.   As of writing this, I have just competed at the Pro Level at an international speaking competition. It was a big deal to me and kinda fell into my lap actually. There were two judges for the event, one from Calgary and one from Las Vegas. Both super amazing speakers in their own right so there was no question as to their street credit. But a person’s perception can colour a behaviour and a structure.   Judge one... I’ve known for a year and have run into many times. Judge two was new to me, so I made it a point of getting to know him over the first day and a half. My scores were 92 vs 77 respectively. With bonus point...

Scott's Thoughts: August

Thank you to Scott Hutchison, Registered Massage Therapist at Elan Family Wellness Centre in Bowness, for this article on the end of summer and recent community contributions!  It's almost over! #summer #gone Back to school is on the mind of most parents by now. Certainly the retailers, but I hope the kids are still lost in the long summer days. Having as much fun as possible in the wonderful weather in western Canada. I want to take a second and thank you all for the great support for Carya on our Patient Day this summer, the 30 lbs of food collected for the Food Pantry Round Up during stampede and the well over 200 books that have gone in and out of our little tiny library. Thank you very much! August 1 st  you will see a little box and some bracelets for sale in the office. Have a look, buy a bracelet. The funds raised are being handled by an amazing young girl facing her own health, the world with grace, dignity and a mission bigger than herself. She needs a bit of...

Scott's Thoughts July: Community

Thank you to Scott Hutchison, Registered Massage Therapist at Elan in Bowness, for these thoughts on Community!  A few years ago, Josephene came up with this concept of Inside the Polished Apple. It was a nifty idea she formed after a trip to the dreaded DisneyLand. (It wan't that bad actually and we learned a ton about creating and morphing a culture) We get similar impulses and ideas every time we visit europe, but this concept of the external matching and balancing the inside has stuck with us. You see, both Josephene and I come from the perspective that our community, business and home life should be an extension of our family. It should all match or be moving towards being in alinement. We value our family and by extension we should value those mention above. The outside of the beautiful apple should match the tasty insides. But if it doesn't, we see the value in finding ways to culture and nurture the insides to match the outsides. The question of what's In...

Birthing in Bowness-The Event

Image
Beautiful pregnant bellies and a mix of birth support professionals-so perfect for a Friday night! We were excited to host a Birthing in Bowness night at our office to support our community of birthing moms in our little town in the city.  Look how lovely the evening turned out! It was largely in part due to support from local businesses and individuals. We had both gift bag and door prize donations, with contributions from local businesses Rumina Naturals , Routine natural deodorant , Peaceful Slumber Paediatric Sleep Solutions (Ali) , Ryder and Reece, Ellie Ears , Tuscany Hot Mama Fitness , and Young Living Essential Oils (Sandra Catania) , local doulas Emilie Sanmartin , Kate Hunter and Amanda Ernewein, and Elan 's own practitioners Lisa Chepil (Registered Massage Therapist), Sandra Catania (Holistic Reflexologist), Margaret Kennedy (Registered Acupuncturist) and myself for Prenatal and Paediatric Chiropractic care. Scott's Thoughts~April

Thanks to Scott Hutchison, our resident Registered Massage Therapist at  Elan, for his thoughts this April!  It's Wednesday March 28 th  at 5:05am and I am working on my April article. This happens to be version 3.0 of the article. The first article was an introduction to  EpiEnergetics . But I got to a point in the writing process where I needed way more exposition than I could fit in the space of a newsletter. So I jumped onto an article about how health care shares similar parallels to the consumer electronics industry. The slow roll out of new technologies generally is controlled for monetary reasons and not necessarily for the benefit of the public. Then I took a shot at the educational system and was working my way up to a swing at the government. So I stopped. What I want to talk about, really, is not the broken or the newest thing. I want to talk about the programs running in your head and my head. You see, we have both been programed by our culture and ...

Scott's Thoughts: February, Heart month or something.

Thanks to our RMT Scott Hutchison for his thoughts on Heart  Month. Enjoy the read!  WARNING: This will be the strangest article from me yet folks! A short time ago, I came across a person. A highly paid and respected computer programmer, who uses custom coded analysis programs (“web-bots”) to detect changes in language on web forums and comments. These changes are of unusual nature and unrelated to the overall themes of said forums or comment threads. The programmer then uses the data as a predictor of future trends and events in society. Kinda like an internet Nostradamus prediction of events to come, by using internet bots to sift through big data for outliers of content in seemingly unrelated things. It's kinda creepy and surprisingly more accurate than you would think (...told ya it would be strange)! So what does that have to do with the heart? Well, around the same time that I met this programmer, I started seeing articles hit my consciousness about the hu...

Scott's Thoughts: January

Thanks to Scott, Registered Massage Therapist and Allergy Practitioner at our office Elan Family Wellness Centre, located in NW Calgary in Bowness! Here's some words to inspire you to your greatness in 2018!  It's 2018 when you are reading this, but at the time of writing I will be in the past. Think of this little article as a time capsule to you from about a week ago. I'm going to fill it with useful knowledge, a few tidbits of awesomeness from 2017 to take into the new year and make life extraordinary. The first is changing the word "goal" to "result." Having a goal can be just a bit nebulas in our modern vernacular. Having a result you want is just enough of a change in language to stimulate a jump in novelty. Also, that hard T sound pulls in a sense of finality. Now say “I get results!“ out loud. Sounds good, right? Next, forget about results. Focus your energy on the emotional WHY or purpose of your result. What do I mean? Say in 2018 you w...

Cupping Massage

Image
Do you know of the many benefits of cupping? Truly deep therapy as the cupping suction can affect the tissues up to 4 inches deep with reverse pressure. Reduces muscular pain and tension as cupping stretches surrounding fascia making space in the tissue allowing for better circulation, mobility, and reduced residual inflammation. Releases muscle spasms by flushing lactic acid away from the muscle to stop the prolonged contraction. Detoxifies by draining toxins and lymph from restricted areas of the body. Helps to ensure a healthy lymphatic system. Increases circulation and warmth to limbs in winter months. Better digestive system: when applied to the abdomen the cups assist with peristalsis of tired and tense muscles in the large intestine. Relieves the congestion from coughs, colds, allergies, and asthma. Improves skin health through rejuvenating the layer of collagen and elastin under the skin. Promotes healing: initially increases inflammation to damaged tissue by bring...

The Three Most Important Turns in Skiing

Image
May is #MindfulnessMay-here's some thoughts from Scott. Scott is our Registered Massage Therapist at Elan Family Wellness Centre. I listen to a lot of podcasts.  A LOT.  My tastes run from photography to new age-y to personal performance to the occult. Lots of ground covered... lots of topics and all of it at my control. Don't like it... what else is on here. Find something interesting... explore it. On one such explorations, I came across a story starring a famous Olympic skier from the 1970's. The Three Most Important Turns in Skiing The interviewer and the skier were on a lift and the skier turns to the interviewer and asks, “Hey man, do you know what the three most important turns in skiing are?” The interviewer reflects for a second or two at the odd question. Intrigued he responds, “I have no idea!” Myself, having not skied in years, thought: could it be the ones they teach you as you're learning? Like the snowplow, then the progress of learning to br...

Scott's Thoughts: Nourish

Image
Our March Theme at Elan is Nourish and Nature. Here are some thoughts from Scott Hutchison, our Registered Massage Therapist at Elan.  As I sit here and write about March and Nourish and what it means to me... I look over at a quote I have hanging on my desk. It reads “The purpose of a goal is not to get the goal. The purpose of a goal is who we become to achieve it.” - Tony Robbins. That's one I can sink my teeth into. Drink in. It inspires me and nourishes a part of my soul that says growth is the key... not so much the thing. Anyhow... here is the quote. ~ Scott

Scott's Thoughts: January Fresh

Elan's Theme for January is Fresh and here are some Thoughts from Scott, our Registered Massage Therapist and Allergy and Sensitivity Testing and Treatment Practitioner at the office.  Wow, what an astonishing year. I'm not talking about 2016... that's done and put to bed. I'm talking about 2017!!!! As we ease, crash and or appear with piles of energy into this new year, I would like to challenge you to find novelty with this following question. When is the last time you did anything for the first time? I'll ask it again and this time with some bold capitals.  WHEN IS THE LAST TIME YOU DID ANYTHING FOR THE FIRST TIME? It's a great question. For some of you, you will feel it in your body. Others, your breath will quicken as you read the line again. And some of you will start to imagine and dare I say... give yourself permission to dream for a second or two. This freshness of thought, action or even structural re framing of experience can be all that it...
