As some of you know, I’ve had my fair share of world travel come up these past few months. I have been speaking, photographing and coaching remotely in the US and in Europe. I just want to thank my regular Massage and Allergy clients for their understanding of my schedule changes over the last two months. Watch for my new hours this month`- I’ve opened up times during Dr Josephene's schedule for those who want to do Chiro/Massage back to back. (Maximizing efficiencies) It’s time for you to pop in for treatment and we can finish up any unused insurance you might have for the year. Scott's Thoughts: Appreciation

Thank you to Scott Hutchison, Registered Massage Therapist with Elan Family Wellness Centre in Bowness, NW Calgary, for these thoughts on Appreciation!  They say 10 thousand hours is the magic number to consider mastery in anything. Since the Bowness location of Elan opened in September 2014 we have hit our 10 thousand hours of serving from the NW of Calgary and more specifically... Bowness. Thank you. On behalf of Rob, Josephene, the practitioners and staff... thank you! Many have joined us over that time, some have moved on, and many we see weekly. We are grateful to continue to serve. To those joining us on June 22nd for our Appreciation Day... thanks in advance and vote for my chili during the 3rd annual Chili Cook Off during the event. With appreciations... ~ Scott

Scott's Thoughts-March

Thank you to Scott Hutchison, Registered Massage Therapist at Elan Family Wellness Centre in Bowness, NW Calgary, for this article for March.  As I write this I am watching the last of the February snows in BC. Just in time for the March snows in BC. With luck... Alberta will be spared and we will have t-shirt and shorts weather all month long. In the sun. The warm, warm sun. The sun gets a bad wrap. Its been linked to a lot of bad things, but it is essential for human life. We must have it, but during the dregs of winter... we forget or simply skip it. With the cold and snow we have had... its hard to get out and be in the sun. Do yourself a favour, and you can even write me your experience, try and get 10-20 minutes of sun exposure to your face and eyes. (No sunglasses for this period) If you can... get 10-20 minutes on your skin if it's not super cold. See if that changes your mood, sleep and general sense of well being. After a February like we have had... anything outsid...

Scott’s Top Ten Ways to Stay Warm in February

Thank you to Scott Hutchison, Registered Massage Therapist with Elan Family Wellness Centre in Bowness/ NW Calgary, for these suggestions on staying WARM this  February (hint: Our theme this month is WARMTH).  Yoga in a skidoo suit. Drink water. Hot or room temperature. Often we forget to drink water during the colder months and due to the extremely dry climate... you should just go drink some water and come back and read the rest. Wear wool. If that is not possible... dress in layers and don’t forget a hat. Wear the hat you almost forgot about. Dance. Just put on some music and celebrate the cold by getting warm dancing. Buy flowers for a loved one... see where it goes ;) Try powering your body with fat instead of sugar. Yes, yes... fad diets aside... up your calories a touch with good fats instead of immune suppressing white refined sugar. Go back and do #4. Get a massage... that will warm up your muscles without having to do anything. Refer to number eight. ...

Scott's Thoughts: December

Thanks to Scott Hutchison, Registered Massage Therapist at Elan in  Bowness/ NW Calgary, for these words to celebrate what our amazing practice members and community have contributed towards!  Wow... just... wow.  Last year, with your help, Elan Family Wellness raise and purchased over $900  in cash that we turned into food for the little free pantry here in Bowness.  Plus we lugged (and I do mean lugged) well over 200lbs of food from our location over to the pantry. That is massive.  If you averaged that to say... $9 a meal plus the food donated, we easily fed over 120 meals between Dec and Feb.  Thank you.  That is outstanding work and I am so proud to have you a members of our practice here at Elan.  We would like to celebrate you!!! This December, we are going to do it again.  This time, we will are going to smash last years numbers.  So please... when you can... chip in.  You can win stuff by helping! Thank ...

Behaviour by Scott

Thanks to Scott Hutchison, Registered Massage Therapist with us at Elan Family Wellness Centre in Bowness, for these thoughts on how to apply behaviour in your life!  Do you ever find yourself stuck on the sofa with a list in your hand and no energy to do it? Have you ever had a problem that seemed so big that there was no way even to start it? Have you ever felt trapped trying to come up with a plan, but seem to chase your tail finding the correct “right” way? This is me... all the time. With some of you, this will resonate. For me, it's like a sledgehammer. So, how does one break out of this mess? I find myself struggling with the above a lot, however, I have a different awareness over the last few years. You see, if I start from a structure or a feeling before I do a behaviour, my energy drops and nothing happens. But.... If I do something productive, almost anything productive, my confidence grows, my ability to think clears and my superpowers of strategy emerge. Prest...

Scott's Thoughts: September & Structure

Thanks to Scott Hutchison, Registered Massage Therapist at Elan Family Wellness Centre in Bowness, for his thoughts on our September theme: Structure!  September and Structure. There is a certain feel to these words. One calls up visions of packed lunches and the nervousness of the first day back. The other is a wall to lean on, containing the chaos, or perhaps a solid plan. I've mixed feelings about both. I once thought of myself as a master planner, but in truth... I'm a doer that needs a bit of motion to simulate the feels. This leads me to discover or create the structure, the master plan. It's my magic formula. If I start into structure first... I just can't seem to get what needs to be done into reality. Yes yes... planning is a form of action, but it really does not bump my energy. In fact.. it may actually drain me to a point of hiding from a challenge. When I was a kid, unavoidably, September and the new school year rolled around. It meant new uncertainti...
