Celebrate Your Life

Celebration is our Theme for December~ Thanks to Dr Rob for these words to help us celebrate! (also published in our Elan monthly newsletter)  Celebrate your life. This task is relatively easy when things are going your way. When challenges come up it becomes more difficult. Think back to the times in the past when you had challenges: How much did you learn and grow during those times? Times of adversity make us stronger, it's easy to reflect and see the blessing that our journey has brought us. Learning how to bring that into present time consciousness takes practice. The better you develop this skill the more quickly you grow and the easier it is to celebrate life every day, knowing that today is a building block for your future. So celebrate the amazing people in your life and the blessings that come your way. Cultivate the practice of seeing the gifts in the people who trigger you, the mistakes you make and bumps in the road. They are your greatest teachers. I celebrate Donal

21 Energy Rich Days III (Behaviour)

It is not a coincidence that I happened to "forget" to post about the Behaviour week of our 21 Day Challenge. When I go behaviour, it seems that all else goes out the window and it is a week of just doing and feeling like my head has been chopped off.  Behaviour Week means that we Just Do. Take the Action. Jump. Don't make the list (unless the action of writing it down) or if you use some crazy mind map. Don't make a plan. Don't think about how you feel of why you do it.  Appropriately, I also planned a lot for myself for the week of Behaviour-there were things during the week, but it ended with 3 events back to back to back. I spoke to a Parent Council meeting at a local school on Seasons of Parenting; I put together a Brain Body Potential Program for a local Healthy Family Fridays AND our office co-hosted a Women's Networking event on the last day. That is what behaviour means to me.  It does mean that with respect to my personal challenge of being a M

A Pause, A Celebration

Words on Celebration to mark our Theme in December (also published in our monthly newsletter)  A pause, a celebration. Our school just celebrated the start of advent. A quiet evening where we are invited to go inward and walk a beautiful evergreen spiral to light our candle from the central light. A time to slow down as the holiday approaches, reflect on what we have in our life, finding light in the darkness and preparing ourselves for these longest nights of the year. Our family raced into the weekend, raced through it, and then carved some time to make it to advent celebration. My daughter raced through the spiral. Partly nerves, and also a reflection of our general speed in life. Uh oh! Life has been busy and very full for us. We celebrate that we have such full lives and that we have many opportunities lately with work, family, school and community. And now it's also time for a pause. We've created events this month at Elan to help you create space for celebration, suc

21 Energy RIch Days II (Perception)

It's week two of our 21 Energy Rich Days Challenge and that means…. Its Perception Week!  An overview of how I approach Perception Week (keep in mind I use Structure to Spark the change and then Perception to Sustain it). 1. Make your goal specific. Mine is To Be a Memory Keeper for my Family. I will dedicate at least 15 minutes a day during this challenge to document our family's memories using the mediums of journaling, scrap booking, photography and related activities.  2 . Create and Visualize Your Outcome. Bonus points if you print it out on colourful paper and put it somewhere you see it everyday. My outcome is to update my daughter's and family's journals; to work on my youngest Year One Scrapbook; to organize photos and take photos of our life together. I get more energy if I phrase it as… "I enjoy looking at my daughter's completed scrapbooks and reading our family's memories. I am creating a long term legacy for my children and subsequent

From a Behaviour Person

Thanks for the article Scott! He wrote this on Halloween & was first published in our November newsletter. He's a true behaviour person, so pay attention!  I don't have a ton of time today to get my point across with Behaviour month. As I sit here near copy deadline (in full Robin from Batman and Robin costume) I need to tell you two things: 1) spandex is not a good look for me... or is it? and 2) The key for me to being in an energy rich state is to start moving. More on number 2. Energy rich can be the difference to massive impact. To be there, as discussed in our  21 Days of Energy Rich  talk, I am a behaviour person. Meaning... I need to move, start something, move my body or take the first steps (often in the wrong direction) to have my energy bump up a state from neutral. Meaning... motion activates me. And like magic... I feel productive and day to day structure gets done. What I am finding though is, I can spend a lot of time doing the wrong things. Thing

21 Energy Rich Days I

We have a challenge happening at the office and we've just started our first official week.  The challenge is to work on something in your life and "play" with the Triad of Change as we go. The Triad of Change means that we all have a strength in how we can make change in our life~using either Structure, Perception or Behavior. For the purpose of this challenge, we don't address whether something is a Prime or a Keystone, but keep it simple and look for what strengthens us and what drains us.  (An aside… Prime means it will help us with the spark or the initial start up energy. Keystone means it provides the body/ energy or holds all the other pieces in place. There is also a drain that is not our best way of starting something, or using the energy from, but is actually our gift when all the sides align.) For my challenge, I am being a Memory Keeper , primarily for my daughters. It started because I was chatting about Christmas 2015 and I had no recollection. Of

Behaviour and Triad of Change

This is the third month chatting about our Triad of Change. Behaviour means we start something with action - it may be movement: walking, exercise or priming exercises, or it may be jumping in to work on the thing that is next needing to be done. We pick Behaviour to go with November as this is the last month we have a chance to take action on our plans for the year before we get caught up in the celebrations of December and the holidays. I think it's a great time to review what are some things you wanted to get done in 2016 - take this opportunity to finish the year on a successful note. Do you have personal or business goals that you can re-start for this last month? We can support you in this!! Join us  online for our  21 Energy Rich Days  challenge, or ask to join our next group. We will play with the Triad of Change to find your most effective strategy for making change in your life. There are lots of great events this month and mark your calendar for our December 2nd Office C

Behaviour from an Acupuncturist's Point of View

Thanks to Dr Lynn Hoffman-Tempel for this article on Behaviour. Behaviour is our Third topic regarding Triad of Change & is our theme for November.  Behavior: the way in which one acts or conducts oneself, especially toward others. Chinese medicine is based on the idea that what happens internally is reflected in the external environment – as within, so without. A visit with a doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine will involve many, many questions. But what you might not be aware of is that your practitioner is carefully taking note of more than what you are saying – they are paying just as much, if not more attention to what you are not saying, the colour and texture of your skin, the way you breathe, how you move and the position that your body holds in a relaxed state. They are also paying attention to the ways in which you respond to the world around you - how you behave. In traditional Chinese Medicine, behavior, or how we are interacting with our environm

Scott on Perception

Our October Theme at Elan is Perception. I'm happy to share this article from Scott (Scott's my husband and Registered Massage Therapist at the office).  Perception: Okay... this is it, lets shift perception fast. Now, don't judge this too quickly. A person could miss out here. Look up, way up. So up in the air that you start to look a the ceiling/sky. Your gaze is now up and behind you. Really move your head and body to do this. You may have already started to notice it feels weird. Next, what happens to you when you try to have a dark or angry thought, while in this position? Go ahead. Try it. You may notice that it is hard to do. How does it feel? Can you do it? Tough to have a dark thought huh? This simple change in behaviour and body structure shifts perception nearly instantly. The fact that you have changed your spine, it's position in space and tone, plus adding an odd and uncommon behaviour means perception is now energized to a new state perception that is b

Practice of Gratitude

Elan's Theme for October is Perception. I'm happy to share this article from our Holistic Reflexologist Sandra on how to practice gratitude.  When I heard the theme this month was gratitude I was really glad, because it has been on my mind a lot lately. It all started a few weeks ago when someone challenged me to a gratitude challenge on social media. I was to post three things a day that I felt grateful about. So this got my mind focusing on looking for my daily things. I realized that the more things I thought about, the more things came to mind. Putting the practice of gratitude into every day equaled an increase in the amount of things I was feeling grateful about. But of course! When you align your thoughts with the positive, the Universe has no choice but to answer with more! Over the past month as my “attitude of gratitude” has been growing, so has my list. Whether the list comes out on paper in a journal, spoken out loud to a loved one or shared as a post on the inter

Attitude of Gratitude

Our theme for October is Perception. I'm happy to share this article from Dr Robert Clarke (Chiropractor and Reorganizational Healing Practitioner with us at Elan) on Gratitude.  Do you maintain an Attitude of Gratitude? It's easy when things are going your way. The true test is to keep it when you face challenges in life. Often on reflection you can see the gifts you have gained going through difficult times. Years later those challenging events can even be looked on with humor and satisfaction. The sense of accomplishment of having overcome those difficult times is gratifying. The goal is to be able to shift to that place of gratitude in the moment. Don’t wait for time to pass to see the lessons, the wisdom being gained, the gifts. What happens over time is that your perception of the situation changes. The cool thing is perception can change in an instant. All we have to do is get out of the way, let go of our “poor me” story and look at our current circumstances from a

Social Vagus

This morning we had a meeting with our Pathways Connect group to discuss articles from the Pathways to Family Wellness magazine. Our chat today seemed to centre on The Social Vagus and creating community. A summary of the article: In this article author and chiropractor Dr. John Edward talks about a turning point in his life. Throughout his career as a chiropractor he had always taught about the two nerve systems, sympathetic (fight or flight) and parasympathetic, which is responsible for balancing everything that enters and leaves the body. While he stands by his long-standing belief that we cannot have health if we live in the sympathetic (stress response) he learned of a surprising study suggesting that spending all our time in the parasympathetic system would wear down one’s health as well. We then learn about the social nerve system, the third branch of the autonomic nerve system. Dr. Edward expresses his personal accounts at the time, going through an emotionally overwhel

Perception

We chatted about  STRUCTURE  in September, next up in our Triad of Change is Perception - all to do with our WHY... how things feel, our emotions, values, vision, story, meaning, purpose and experience. As with all the components of the Triad, one part may be easier for you, one part may be more challenging. If you want to learn more about your Triad of Change, please join us for an upcoming Bridge workshop or for our 21 Day Energy Rich Challenge! Whether perception is a strength for you or not, I have a secret way around it that I can guarantee will work for you. Know what it is? Gratitude. Thanksgiving has just occured and isn't it amazing that we have a holiday based on this positive emotion and action? Can you think of some ways to bring more gratitude in your life? Oprah made it popular - keeping a Gratitude Journal with 5 things you are grateful every day. Celebrate your successes at the end of the day. Carry a Gratitude Rock and reflect on your blessings when you touch it. V

Scott and Structure

Structure and Routine… At Elan, that's our focus for the month of September. By now you have the kids back in school, the days are getting shorter and colder, and its time to spend more of our time indoors and return to our routines. We have written words from our practitioners, with articles from this month's newsletter. I hope you enjoy the different perspectives! Today I had an interesting conversation with a Tony Robbins Business Strategist. For those who don't know who Tony Robbins is... you need to go  here  or  here  (rough Tony language) or for sure ====>  here . I promise, just those little videos will shift your perception in the time it takes to watch. Today we chatted about mapping out what our ideal structure of Elan would look like. I am not going to go into any details on that, it's top secret of course, but I will tell you that a key point is not forming a business plan. A Business MAP is much more important to arriving at a goal as a structure to

We all have Structure in our lives. It can be something that we have after taking action in our lives. It can be the starting point for getting things done. It may also be there as one step on your journey. For me Structure is a great starting point. I make a plan, write a list or organize my work space. This motivates me to get busy doing the things that help my life move forward. Then I feel inspired and motivated to do more. Everyone has their own way that works best for them. You may need to jump to action and then see how your feelings change or what structure shows up. Other people need to take some time w

Let us introduce/re-acquaint you to the Triad of Change. This September we will share about Structure, with Perception and Behavior soon to follow! The Triad means that we can use our strengths to accomplish change, without getting stuck on our areas of weakness. For September, let us start by pretending Structure is our strength. We have ease moving into scheduled days; learning new activities in classes or at work; and creating and accomplishing new goals - whether for our physical health or other. Sound good? We have written words from our practitioners, with articles from this month's newsletter. I hope you enjoy the different perspectives! Structure... The word itself makes me clench up just a little. I am more of a "free flowing" type of person. I am not a meal planner, not a summer holiday planner, but I do admire all of the more structured people in my life... which is just about everyone, I'm pretty sure! Fall definitely feels like the most "structured" season. The long, free days of summer come to an end, school starts up, sports and activities begin again. Structure, routine and order... sounds like fall to me. What is fall like for those of us that do not feel best in a structured environment? Sometimes the transition

One Full Year

You better grab a tea before you start reading! You know when you miss doing something but have the hardest time getting back into it? When last I was here I was still pregnant and about to take a short leave from work... hello, 13 months later. Suddenly I remembered that I DO like to write and I DO have so much to share and I had just forgotten. It feels more awkward to start again than to just randomly start posting things. One full year it has been. I thought having one kid, a business to run, a life to live was busy. I'm trying so hard not to use the B word; I'm aiming for FULL instead and that's what life has been since our family grew and the office grew right along with it. On the tail end of summer and cramming in every adventure that we can manage on so little sleep and bookended by naps and early bedtimes. And rigid meals and third breakfast and such (that one is all me but the sleep part is shared with the littlest). How to sum up the year? One
