Earthing

April is Mother Earth Month at Elan Family Wellness Centre. Thank you to Dr Robert Clarke, Network Spinal Analysis Chiropractor at Elan, for this article on Earthing.  Connecting to the earth is essential to good health. In recent years Earthing (making physical connection with the earth) has become trendy, yet for most of us we know that spending time in nature is good for us. Researchers now measure the benefits. So whether it's your backyard, a walk in one of our amazing parks in the city, or getting out of town to enjoy nature, the benefits on our bodies and our brains is profound. To be considered Earthing, your body must connect with the earth. Walk with bare feet, get your hands into the soil, hug a tree or, lay on grass and watch the clouds. This way we directly feel the magnetic force of the  earth, we feel its frequency. This is more powerful than so many of the medications people are prescribed, helping moods, anxiety, inflammation, and a large host of medical disorder

Birthing in Bowness-The Event

Image
Beautiful pregnant bellies and a mix of birth support professionals-so perfect for a Friday night! We were excited to host a Birthing in Bowness night at our office to support our community of birthing moms in our little town in the city.  Look how lovely the evening turned out! It was largely in part due to support from local businesses and individuals. We had both gift bag and door prize donations, with contributions from local businesses Rumina Naturals , Routine natural deodorant , Peaceful Slumber Paediatric Sleep Solutions (Ali) , Ryder and Reece, Ellie Ears , Tuscany Hot Mama Fitness , and Young Living Essential Oils (Sandra Catania) , local doulas Emilie Sanmartin , Kate Hunter and Amanda Ernewein, and Elan 's own practitioners Lisa Chepil (Registered Massage Therapist), Sandra Catania (Holistic Reflexologist), Margaret Kennedy (Registered Acupuncturist) and myself for Prenatal and Paediatric Chiropractic care. Scott's Thoughts~April

Thanks to Scott Hutchison, our resident Registered Massage Therapist at  Elan, for his thoughts this April!  It's Wednesday March 28 th  at 5:05am and I am working on my April article. This happens to be version 3.0 of the article. The first article was an introduction to  EpiEnergetics . But I got to a point in the writing process where I needed way more exposition than I could fit in the space of a newsletter. So I jumped onto an article about how health care shares similar parallels to the consumer electronics industry. The slow roll out of new technologies generally is controlled for monetary reasons and not necessarily for the benefit of the public. Then I took a shot at the educational system and was working my way up to a swing at the government. So I stopped. What I want to talk about, really, is not the broken or the newest thing. I want to talk about the programs running in your head and my head. You see, we have both been programed by our culture and our environment

Birthing in Bowness

BIRTHING IN BOWNESS Our community of Bowness has such amazing families and local supports for the pregnant mom and growing family. We would like to bring many of you together - let's make this a chance for moms to meet other moms who are pregnant (or want to be), for us to meet our local birth support workers (whether doulas, sleep consultants, health professionals, etc.) and have a fun and social evening while doing so. We will coordinate a mini “meet-your-neighbour” event, have three short (5-10 minute) presentations on helping your birthing process, and save time to eat and mingle. For more info, click  here .  Our presentations will be from Sandra Catania, Holistic Reflexologist, Amanda Ernewein, Doula and Midwifery Student, and Ali from Peaceful Slumber Paediatric Sleep Solutions.  Friday , April 20 at  7:00pm

Time Well Spent with Ina May Gaskin

This March at the ICPA Freedom for Family Wellness Summit in Washington, D.C., I had the privilege to meet and hear the Mother of Direct Entry Midwifery, Ina May Gaskin. Her practical manner and advice, and recommendations to follow our intuition and nature, meant she is first to my mind on the subject of Mother Nature. Ina May quoted Martha Mears, “Follow nature...we can grow wise only by her wisdom.” Tips and idioms from Ina May that can be applied to Pregnancy and Birth. And life in general. Promote good posture and strong bones-specifically to help in pregnancy and birth, but we all need this! Learn from nature-how do animals birth? Don't interfere unless necessary! Walk the cows in (which helps the release of milk). Our private parts are “shy”-that's why they're called private parts ;) Do what is asked of you (that's basically how her grandmother became a midwife). Walking & hard labor is better for you than the “idle li
