Nature's Living Wisdom

The following is from the most recent issue of ICPA's Pathways to Family Wellness magazine (its available in the office!) and I thought the subject matter aligned nicely with our monthly August theme of Seasons.

“We are composed of rhythms and exist within the rhythms of nature... Seasonal, circadian, lunar, and tidal patterns don't just form the background to our lives-theyare our lives.”

While many of us are rushing through our days and keeping tight to a paper/ computer schedule, summer presents the perfect time to synchronize with the patterns of ebb and flow around us. A few of the suggestions presented in the article:
  • Awareness and Enjoyment of the daily transition of the sun rising and setting, and observing the stars in the sky at night.
  • Witness the temporary moments-such as how the sun filters through your backyard or a fleeting moment of a butterfly passing.
  • The concept of balance as constantly changing and dynamic.
  • Look for the silence in your days-when the wind in the trees stops, when there is a pause in the music, or when you are underwater.
  • Pace your life to an inner rhythm. “tempo giusto” which means the right rhythm, and is around 66-76 on the metronome, and coincidentally, the average beat of the human heart. This is now a lifestyle movement to live life in congruence between one's own rhythm and external rhythms-seasonal, circadian, lunar and tidal.
  • Listen to your personal intuition.
“We cannot break the rhythms of nature, only ourselves against them.”

I did get to experience a magical week on the West Coast Trail as we lived in sync with nature-rising with the sun, planning our hiking according to tide tables, or weather patterns-rain!-seeing the sun set at night with the stars appearing, and watching the moon grow over the week. While this is not as easy to do in the city, there are many moments that we can incorporate.

It's also the season to have your kids checked after their seasonal, summer growth spurt and for their overall nervous system health! Family Days will be on August 21st and 22nd. We use Network Spinal visits in our office for our chiropractic care.

If your child is new to the office, ask us about Postural Checkups or Kids New Chiropractic Patient Exams.
