We've got News!

We have so much to share!  

The big news is that Elan will soon have a new home!  

We're currently building the walls, and expect to move at the end of the summer, with Westbrook open until the end of September.  The new office will be in Bowness-the little community in the west that our family has come to love.  We're excited to share our small town with you!  We will be able to continue to offer excellent care to you and your family, but with extended hours, accessible driving and parking, and a beautiful office that we are watching unfold. The new address is:

#48, 7930 Bowness Road NW

We'll be near the former Bowness library site, on the way to the Bowness Arena, High School, and beside the shops with Bownesian Grocer.

We're excited about everything, but also that Elan will be growing as we move to Bowness!  We have new faces joining us, as the team from Gateway is also coming.  If you haven't already met them, please help us welcome Dr Rob, Dr Lisa, Dr Casey, and Christa at the new office-we will soon be the hub for Calgary's ReOrganizational Healing, Network Spinal Analysis, and Acupuncture care!  We will be sharing their information in the weeks to come.  

You may be curious as to why we are moving after almost 10 years in the same location?  While we love being neighbours with such great communities like Wildwood, Westgate, and Killarney, love our sunny little office, and truthfully, felt pretty settled, there have been many changes over the last several years.  With the rising cost of doing business in Calgary, the stress of the daily (or twice daily) commute, and some unfavourable work conditions (its relative), we felt it was time for a change.  Without leaving town or changing professions, it seemed easiest to look at the parts of Calgary we love.  By moving to Bowness we can pay rent to a local business person (not a company in Toronto), support our local community, and pretend that we live and work in a small town. And walk or bike to work-saving time to redirect to what's important, and walking the talk of minimizing our ecological footprint.  

We are excited to share Bowness with you.  Over the next couple of months, we want to share some of the great things about our community, in the hopes that we will continue to see your face at Elan!  We have felt warmly embraced by the groups and businesses in the area, and they also want to help welcome you!  We are still arranging it, but know that the Bowness businesses will want to play along with some fun offers and/ or prizes for our practice members.  Stay tuned as we finalize the details.

You'll enjoy the trip down the hill to the peaceful, river community oasis of Bowness.  We promise!  

For now, welcome to our journey West to Bowness!  We look forward to sharing this trip with you.

Outdoor Inspiration

We went to Banff this past weekend. Absolutely one of the best things about living so close to the mountains, and also something we rarely take advantage of.  Beautiful mountains, fresh air, excellent sushi (don't we all go to Banff for sushi?), healing, mineral hot springs. Sounds lovely, yes? While I was there, I checked my email and coincidentally, had one commenting on the benefits of being outside (kids and adults) for 2-3 hours per day. Yes, 2-3 hours a day.  I don't think commuting in the car counts.   Are you outside this often? Are your kids? So many benefits of being outside: Fresh air Better sleep More exercise (unless that's lying on a beach, or in a hammock) Ability to explore our natural world-trees, bugs, animals, mud... Clay and The 12 Senses

This past weekend was the 4th Annual Waldorf Gateways Conference, with keynote speaker, Dr. Adam Blanning.  Dr Blanning is trained in family practice medicine and in anthroposophically extended medicine.  I enjoyed learning about Health and Well-Being for Children and Families, and especially enjoyed my two workshops.   The clay...wonderful for our 12 senses!  Hopefully that's making you think a little, are you familiar with our 12 senses?  The first 5 are easy... vision, smell, taste, hearing, and touch.  And then?   Imagine working with clay-first you will see the clay, and then reach out and touch it.  You may bring it up to your nose to smell, but hopefully you don't stick your tongue out to taste it.  The clay may feel cold, or start to warm up as you work it in your hands.  You probably won't hear too much from the clay, except the quiet of the room, or other voices.  If you hear voices, you may hear words being spoken; you may have thoughts about those words
