Hello September

We hope that you have had a wonderful summer! Our family squeezed in one last weekend in the Shuswap over the Labor Day weekend and had an eye opener that fall is arriving- temperatures were cooling, lips were blue when we were in the water, and the salmon had already returned for their annual run. It has been a short summer for our family as we've been immersed in the renovations at our new office and creating the structures for business this fall.

Yes... Structure and September always go together in my mind. The fall brings new school routines, new classes, new ambitions, and for many is considered the start of the year.
I find it helpful to keep the Triad of Change in my perspective at a time like this. I'm re sharing how best to identify and use your strengths. If structure is a strength of yours, you probably embrace this month. You love planning, routines, the new clothes and supplies, and having everyone where they belong. If you are cringing or avoiding facing reality, spend a moment considering if you can use either a new behavior or perception to approach September.

With behavior as a possible strength, your key is to start moving your body, and just take action. Gather the kids up and shop for all those things you forgot, take them to the school playground to get them settled, drive your new route to work or school.

If perception is a strength, think about how calm the family will feel as the new routine is established; consider how energized and vibrant your body will be after you've been at your new spinning class for a few weeks; reflect on how this year/class/degree will move you one step closer to your goals.

In all honesty, Scott and I took on a lot this summer and it's been a long haul. We know the end is in sight and we're excited to soon show you the new Elan Bowness space and the new faces. For background, between the two of us, one of us shuts down with too much structure, so some days we need to just start with the next action needed. (There's always something to knock down, paint, mud...). One of us shuts down in general (perhaps that's behavior-there's just so much to do!!!) so going back to structure can help. Or, the old stand-by (which falls into perception) "Just remember why we are doing this" and what life will be like 2 months down the road. On September 22nd, we are excited to welcome you to the new Elan Family Wellness Centre. New structure and all.
