Nurturing Yourself

Thank you to Dr Robert Clarke, Chiropractor at Elan Family Wellness Centre, for this article on some ways to nourish yourself this March!

As the days get longer and we can feel spring in the air, the snow begins to melt nourishing the trees, the grass, and gardens. Nature has a natural cycle, naturally composting. Microbes in the soil are always actively transforming the leftovers from past years growth into nutrients to fuel and support new growth and so the cycle continues.

As you move towards spring how are you nurturing yourself?  It's always good to take inventory before jumping into action. How active have you been over the winter, what has your diet been like? These types of questions will help you nourish yourself in the best way possible. With the winter we just had maybe you are feeling a bit of cabin fever, so you will want to get outdoors, go for a hike. It may be as simple as a walk around the block, taking a pause to feel the sun and wind on your face.

Maybe a cleanse makes sense to help kick start a move towards better nutrition. There are many ways to cleanse. You can buy a kit and follow their suggestions, or you can look on line and find one that works for you. The best cleanse is one you can stick to, so if you are new to this then pick something simple. It could be that you simply avoid processed foods and eat a minimum of 10 fruits and veggies per day for a week or 10 days. If that seems intimidating, try it for 4 days. See how you feel. You may find it's easier than you think.

Move your body: walk, dance, swim, make sure it is something you enjoy. That makes it much more sustainable. Be active at least 3 times per week. Have fun with it, try new activities, get out with friends, meet new friends. Being social is also an important component in nourishing yourself.

Let us support you in moving into spring in a good way. Come in and have your spine checked. Allow yourself to start with a nervous system and structure that are performing at their best, creating a great platform for you to get nourished. We are also here to guide you in getting started. Remember you are not alone on your healing journey.
