In Like a Lamb

Anyone in Calgary knows that our first three days of March have been only too typical of March-Days 1 and 2 lamb-like; Day 3 lion-like.  I feel its only an indicator of what is to come this month so I'm taking a deep breath while I still can.

We have a lot coming up at our office this month as you can see in our current newsletter:

Elan's March Newsletter

Our first big event is this upcoming weekend, with the Festival of Health and Wellness.  I'm excited to be both an exhibitor and a guest workshop presenter.  I'm using this week to put the final touches on my workshop.  I'll be sharing 3 Steps to De-stress; using breath techniques from The 12 Stages of Healing (a book by Dr. Donald Epstein) to identify where we hold tension in our body and easy ways to connect and release this tension.

Right now, I feel like I need that deep breath to re-focus.

Wouldn't a 5 minute break be a perfect addition to today?  Here's a simple way to take a stress break:

  1. Sit comfortably in your chair, or lie on your back with your knees bent.
  2. Place both hands one on top of the other at the top of your chest.
  3. Take a deep breath in your nose and then out your mouth, working at bringing all of the movement, breath and energy right under your hands.
  4. Repeat 5 times.
If its working well for you, repeat in the next 2 positions:
  1. Slide hands down to the bottom of your breast bone/ where the ribs connect.
  2. Repeat 5 breaths at this area-breathing in your nose and out your mouth.
  3. Last position!  Slide hands down to your belly button and continue breathing in your nose and out your mouth for five final breaths.
  4. Focus breath, movement and energy right under your hands.
Say "I feel more connected"

Congratulations!  Just 15 breaths and I hope you feel more relaxed and focused.  It may seem like a simple exercise, but it can be very effective for changing pain in our body and for calming our mind.  Now I am ready for the lion part of March to come!

  1. Thanks, we forget how relaxing deep breathing can be. My facial muscles needed that.

  2. Yes, good reminder of the practice of something so simple of deep breathing and how effective overall it can be for us!

  3. Thanks Josephene! Sally was right -- I needed that today. Getting grounded on a daily basis is something I MUST remember. I don't. I walk through every day go-go-go in action mode with a splash of dreaming and forward thinking. Stopping, breathing deep and finding my bearings is so required for me, but rarely done. Will practice this simple process! Remind me would ya?!

  4. We are all so busy and we rush through our days filled with stress and tension. I need to practice this technique again and again. Thanks for such an easy one....
